Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), a Non – governmental Organization committed to fostering quality and balanced education in Nigeria, organized the tenth edition of her annual Teens Speak Out oratory and essay writing contest
The assertion that “great things start in small places” was evident in the organisation’s celebration of her tenth year of making impact and giving the teens an opportunity to contribute to national development by engaging issues of national discourse, and also inculcate the art of public speaking and critical thinking.
The tenth edition was held on Tuesday, 10th of October 2023 at Adebimpe event centre, Omo West osogbo, having over 500 registered students from 35 schools in Osun state, ingeniously barring their minds on various national issues bordering on the theme ” Are palliatives an effective short – term solutions for alleviating the immediate effects of subsidy removal or do they perpetuate dependency on government assistance?”
As usual, the event featured both oratory and essay competitions, with two students representing each school, one for each category.
After a keenly contested rounds having an impromptu final round, Aminah Akiniyi, a student of Fakunle Comprehensive High school with 382 points emerged as winner of the Oratory contest, Marvelous Adedoye (Kings and Queen Academy) and Taliat Fatimoh ( Nacomyo Group of schools) emerged as the first runner-up and second runner-up with 356 and 340 points respectively.
On the panel were Sanni Alausa- Issa, Saheed Ganiyu , Arinola Adeleke, Lateef Sulaiman, Olaitan Junaid, Adedayo Oderinu and Azeezat Adekanye.
The top prize of the Essay competition was bagged by Michael Grace from Roseful High School with an aggregate of 87%, Makinde Abdul Raheem Abayomi from Islamic Model college emerged the first runner up with 74%, and Hissa Fatimoh Olamiposi from Nacomyo International College the second runner up with 73%.
